This work in progress explores the use of dot markers on maps and their abstract representation of place. Online directories use similar dot plotting to track migrant deaths where a single red dot marks a life lost to exposure, dehydration, or violence on the border. From scanning of the horizon, termed “line watching” by border patrol, appears a single red dot. With each monotype “frame”, the dot shifts further and further from its point of origin.
